Connect Apollo.io: sync a saved Apollo contact list

Connect a saved Apollo.io contact list with your own API key. PPCmate reads only the e-mail addresses, hashes them on arrival and refreshes the list every day. You can then use it on Google, Microsoft and Meta like any other customer list.

Before you start: Apollo's API needs a paid Apollo plan. On the free plan, the connection is refused.

1. Create an API key in Apollo

  1. In Apollo, go to Settings → Integrations → API → API Keys → Create new key.
  2. Allow these endpoints: labels/index, contacts/search and users/api_profile. A master key also works.
  3. Copy the key.

2. Connect it in PPCmate

  1. Go to Audiences → Connect Audience Data. Under CRM & B2B data, click Connect on Apollo.io.
  2. Paste the key into API key and click Check key. You'll see your Apollo account and the last 4 characters of the key.
  3. Under List, choose a saved contact list.
  4. Check the Audience name and the E-mail field.
  5. Under Updates, choose Daily (recommended) or Once.
  6. Tick the permission box and click Connect.

Contacts whose e-mail you haven't revealed in Apollo have no address to send, so they're skipped. Reading lists through the API doesn't use Apollo credits.

3. Use the list

The audience appears on the Audiences page. Pick it in a campaign's Customer Lists section, under Show ads to. See Customer lists: upload a list and use it on Google, Microsoft and Meta.

Troubleshooting

  • "Preparing…": the audience is being set up. This takes a few minutes, and there's nothing to do.
  • "Connected · too small": Google, Microsoft and Meta need at least 300 people. Use a bigger list, or reveal more e-mails in Apollo.
  • "Reconnect": Apollo refused the key, for example because it was deleted or your plan changed. Click Reconnect, paste a new key and click Save key. Campaigns keep using the last good list.
  • "Needs you": the last update failed. Hover for the reason, then click Sync now.
  • The key was not accepted: check that the key allows the three endpoints above and that your Apollo plan includes API access.
  • People count is lower than the list in Apollo: contacts without a revealed e-mail are skipped. Very large lists (over 50,000 contacts) can't be read, so split them in Apollo.
